Tankless Water Heaters

What is a Tankless Water Heater?

A tankless water heater is a water-heating device that just like the name states, does not have an internal hot water storage tank. As a consequence a tankless water heaters take up less area no matter where you install it.

How do tankless water heaters work?

When there is a demand for hot water (e.g. a hot water tap is opened for a sink, shower, tub, or washing machine) the tankless water heater’s water flow turbine senses the flow and starts the heating process.

The water flow turbine sends a signal to the control board, which looks at multiple factors: incoming water temperature, desired water temperature as set on the temperature controller, and the calculated difference between the two temperatures. Depending on the calculated incoming and desired water temperatures, the gas or electric flow into the burner assembly is modulated and the electronic ignition sequence begins.

Water is heated to the desired temperature as it circulates through the copper heat exchanger providing continuous hot water. When the hot water tap is turned off, the tankless water heater shuts down and is placed in a standby mode pending the next call for hot water.

What are the advantages of a tankless water heater?

Also known as an on demand water heater, this innovative product generates hot water immediately when you open the hot water faucet. The unit then turns it-self off when the faucet is closed, thus saving energy costs over the entire lifetime of the unit.

The energy consumed is only for heating the water that is needed for that specific time. Since there is no storage of hot water and no constant heating and re-heating of water as in standard water heaters, you’re not wasting energy when you don’t need it.

The energy savings of the gas tankless water heater translates in to dollar savings for you and reduced impact on our environment. Typical savings are approximately 30% of your energy usage.

Furthermore, a tankless water heater produces an endless supply of hot water, provided you size the unit appropriately. Points-of-use water heaters are also designed to last for 20+ years and can be mounted to a wall to save space.

I was very happy with the work Bill did - he and his team were quick, clean and very helpful. He also recommended a *great* tiler. I will be using Bill and his team again for my other bathroom remodel.

I'm a new home owner without any knowledge on plumbing. After moved-in, I found my shower spout bad, and water became half and half when pulling up the splitter. I thought it would be easy to fix it as I watched some youtube videos and talked to several associates in the Home Depot before I bought a new spout and a 18" pipe wrench. But it's not that simple. After my dad twisted the spout off with the wrench, we found got the copper pipe broken. In no way, I could fix it without a professional help. After searching in http://yelp.com, I decided to give Dempster a try. He quoted in the phone and showed up half an hour later. He managed to fix the problem in 15mins and checked all my other faucets for free. The total charge is what he quoted plus the cost of the part. I'm 100% satisfied with his job. A year has been passed, and his work is still very good. I have recommended him to several friends.

From Yelp, I found Dempster. Called Bill, he came and checked out in less than two hours, gave me an quote, I mentioned YELP, he instantly gave me a YELP discount. Both Chris and William did a wonderful job, both of them are very experienced and friendly. Say no more. I give 5 stars. Tom

We needed new fixtures for three bathroom sinks, and an upstairs Roman tub that was completely surrounded by tile--panic! We thought we would need a tile company after the new fixtures were installed. Bill Dempster said our favorite words in the English language--NO PROBLEM! We'll just go in through the wall of the house! He explained it to us, and we believed it would be "no problem"! And it wasn't! On a wonderful Indian summer days, with temps of 80+ degrees, we had a plumber on a ladder for the better part of 5 hours, working through a hole in the side of our house. The hole was fixed; the fixtures were installed in the allotted time, and for the contracted price. The crew was great; tarps were placed everywhere they walked; we were delighted with the entire process. The only reason we gave 5 stars is that we couldn't give 6! H & M

I'm a real estate broker and have gone through a lot of plumbers. Until now, I haven't been able to refer any plumbers out to my clients because there wasn't any one that I could trust. Then, I was recently referred to Bill Dempster and his team by a client of mine. I was so impressed with the quality and finish work in my clients bathroom (which was practically a full remodel) that I called him to open up my bathtub walls to check out some water damage and install a shower enclosure. They did a great job of identifying the problem, salvaged the marble tiles and did a beautiful job patching, sheetrocking and reattaching the marble. They also did an amazing job putting the enclosure on. I have seen so many shotty jobs that I know it's not as easy as it seems. His team even noticed that the new glass door was slightly chipped so they took it back to Home depot for me and got a new one and the installation was spot on!! They vacuumed and cleaned and it was like they were never there! Thanks Bill, Vallen and Brian!! You guys are awesome! Recently, I just sent him to quote out another clients home of mine and he was very professional with the seller and gave me a fair assessment (even showed up before I did!) He returns your calls and shows up on time and does a superb job!

I recently knocked my whole house down and rebuilt it from the ground up. The total square footage of the new house is about 3100 square feet which Bill Dempster & crew did every bit of plumbing work required (rough & finish). He is very knowledgeable and be it different brands of fixtures, instahot vs tank water heaters or even supply houses he provides good input as needed. Bill (owner) personally worked on the whole job and was there for every plumbing inspection to answer any questions that the city inspector had. Every single inspection passed the first time. I should also add that he clearly takes a lot of pride in his work and is quite confident that his work will pass any inspection the first time. As an owner builder this is very reassuring. Long story short, the guy is good and his prices are also good. I have referred him to a lot of people already and will continue to do so.

My wife and I are very well satisfied with the quality of work that Bill and his associates provided us. After our own thorough research of information on proper copper repiping, Bill's wealth of knowledge and experience added to our reassurance that he is a master on this field. He explained to us the entire work as it progresses and even made extra repairs to other plumbing to bring up-to-code with no extra charges. We highly recommend him for any repiping/plumbing work.

Bill Dempster and his crew came to our rescue again! The main sewer line leaving the house was clogged up like last year. Bill and crew came out that same day to clear it. Turns out we needed to get rid of some pervasive roots from our magnolia tree which were diagnosed by drain pipe video camera. After the diagnosis, they came out as scheduled and convenient for us, and put in a small section of new pipe in our front yard to replace the section the roots had tapped into. So fast, affordable, and professional. I trust Bill Dempster with all my plumbing needs, every time! Elizabeth T.

Contacted Bill based on previous YELP reviews and he gave me a quote over the phone. He showed up on time the next morning and after reviewing the job reduced his quote since it was easier than he had expected. Bill was very efficient and professional and completed the job on the first appointment. I would definately use him again.

A colleague referred me to Dempter plumbing when I mentioned that I had a clogged dishwasher. Joe was the person who came over to fix it. He did a fantastic job finding the issue and fixing other leaks. Unfortunately the problem was in the float valve of the dishwasher and he did give me good deal of info on what was busted so that I don't get conned by the person who comes to fix the appliance. Highly recommend Dempster.

THANK YOU DEMPSTER PLUMBING!! We had a leaky kitchen sink, and called a large plumbing company in San Jose to come fix it. They arrived, took 5 seconds to look under the sink and told me I needed a new garbage disposal and that it would cost $665.00. I was shocked, and said I needed to talk it over with my husband. We asked around for a good plumber, and a good friend said she uses Bill Dempster. We called Bill, and the next day had a leak free sink for $89.00. The garbage disposal was perfectly fine, all they had to do was reseal the drain and tighten a few things up. Thank you Dempster plumbing for being so honest and for your quality work. We are loyal customers from now on and will recommend you to all of our friends! Thanks, again!

My water heater recently started leaking, and after contacting my home warranty company and having a bad experience with the plumbers they referred, I decided to contact Bill, who I found through yelp. Since he had the highest reviews, I decided to give him a call about replacing my water heater. I found that he was very knowledgeable and thorough about my inquiries about a tankless vs. tank water heater. I ended up going with a standard, tank water heater which he installed at a very competitive rate. Him and his crew did a very thorough, clean job. I had no problems with setting up an appointment with him or getting my questions answered. He was always very quick in responding to both emails and phone calls. I would highly recommend Bill for his exemplary customer service attitude, knowledge, and his ability to get things fixed quickly.

I recently needed to replace my water heater, and with Thanksgiving only a couple days away I needed to do it FAST. After calling around to several places for blind quotes, I spoke with Bill Dempster at Dempster plumbing. He quoted a good price, without monkeying around at all. I was still hoping to find a better price, so I made more calls and even had one person come by to do an in person, formal quote. Not only was it more, it was almost two and a half times more. And it was all add-ons like "new flexline", "new TMP", "new ball valve", etc. When I told him about the better quote he assured me that there was no way it would hold up once the plumber showed up and saw my setup. Long story short, I nervously called Dempster back to see if I should expect add'l costs and was assured that I had nothing to worry about. When the guys showed up I was pleasantly surprised to see that EVERYTHING the other plumber suggested would be extra ... was included. They also did a great job positioning the unit better than it had been, and cleaned up quickly. All in all a fantastic experience.

This is the plumber you want! My first house, my first plumbing disaster: I backed the car into the water heater pipes. When I called, Bill (the owner) answered the phone, told me how to turn the water off, listened to me freak out, calmed me down, AND sent someone out (he was in New York himself) in an hour! Very professional! Thank You!
