Our house is rather old, from the 1920s era. We had to get several different quotes and discussed how they would go about fixing the problems at hand. One guy wanted to cut through the sheet rock and fully patch it up the area. There was a toilet and sink not running. The tub had an everlasting leak. In the long run, Bill and Nolan were the ones who were most reliable and skilled. We asked to try to keep the bathroom tub handles as original as possible. Bill went out of his way to get the dual handles and spout in Santa Clara and drove back to San Jose. What a guy! And above all, he is a down to earth kind of person. I really appreciated his honesty. He was not pushy, and gave you the run down on things. If anything, he gave you several options, whether or not I could patch something or replace it entirely. I am honestly surprised he does not have more yelps. Be assured, we will be recommending him to our friends and using him again soon.
Bill and his crew were great. We had a new gas line run for a gas stove. They arrived when he said he would, gave a very reasonable estimate and did the job well. I'm glad I found him. Another plumber had talked to me about also installing a tankless water heater but didn't tell me about all of the issues involved, Bill was fully forthcoming on the pros and cons and issues to deal with involving that other project. I will recommend him to my friends.
I'm a real estate broker and have gone through a lot of plumbers. Until now, I haven't been able to refer any plumbers out to my clients because there wasn't any one that I could trust. Then, I was recently referred to Bill Dempster and his team by a client of mine. I was so impressed with the quality and finish work in my clients bathroom (which was practically a full remodel) that I called him to open up my bathtub walls to check out some water damage and install a shower enclosure. They did a great job of identifying the problem, salvaged the marble tiles and did a beautiful job patching, sheetrocking and reattaching the marble. They also did an amazing job putting the enclosure on. I have seen so many shotty jobs that I know it's not as easy as it seems. His team even noticed that the new glass door was slightly chipped so they took it back to Home depot for me and got a new one and the installation was spot on!! They vacuumed and cleaned and it was like they were never there! Thanks Bill, Vallen and Brian!! You guys are awesome! Recently, I just sent him to quote out another clients home of mine and he was very professional with the seller and gave me a fair assessment (even showed up before I did!) He returns your calls and shows up on time and does a superb job!
High kudoos for both Yelp and Dempster Plumbing. Based on positive recommendations on Yelp for Dempster, I called them with what I thought was a major water leak problem in my front yard. I had gotten other bids from $1,800 to $6,000 to fix the problem, and didn't feel good about any of those vendors. I called Dempster on Friday morning, they came out Friday afternoon, determined the problem, came back on Saturday and did the work. Total job -- 3 hours plus material: $276! Bill Dempster and his crew are the best -- honest, competent and timely. I am one happy camper.
I found Bill Dempster though a recommendation from a co-worker, and after reading the existing reviews here and on on Angie's List decided to talk to him about my re-pipe needs. He was quickly able to set up an appointment, and gave me what I believe to be a reasonable quote for the work. He and his team did a wonderful job with the re-pipe, and quickly corrected the few problems that were discovered (one caused by an earlier partial re-pipe of the home). They kept the site clean, both by tarping all areas of the house they entered and by sweeping the garage after every day. The drywall they had to remove for their work is almost surgical, and even though they were not contracted for the drywall repair, they replaced all but one piece that was too damaged to re-use (prior water damage in the bathroom). They made sure I had water every night, and even repaired my dryer vent for me while they were under the house. They also replaced a shower valve at my request and neatly dressed the water filter lines under the kitchen sink. The re-pipe and tankless water heater install went well and on schedule. I highly recommend Bill and his company, and would definitely use him for any plumbing needs in the future.
It's the end of the Thanksgiving weekend and a copper elbow on my pipes sprung a leak!!! So, I looked in the yellow pages and called one of those big fancy we work 24/7 plumbers. They said they would be out in an hour. Three hours later they gave me an estimate of $300.00!!! Now, I am a women, but I've worked in the landscape maintenance trade for a local municipality for 25 years, so I've fixed a few pipes in my day (mostly on irragation), so I knew when I was being taken. But, it was a holiday weekend, what could I do? And, what I did was decide not to be stupid. I got on Craigslist, and found Dempster Plumbing. Crossed my fingers and dialed. Bill answered and I told him my problem. He said he would be there in 30-40 minutes. Well, 15 minutes later, Bill was at my door. soldered the pipe and even fixed a leak in the shower in less than 45 minutes. He was clean, courteous, and professional. Oh yeah, the price less than 1/3 the estimate of that big fancy company. I know that when your calling someone cold, your taking a risk. But, Bill Dempster was a risk I'm glad I took. I would have never thought I'd be happy to see plumbers in my house until the Dempster guys showed up! We had a water heater that was almost as old as our 50-year-old house. When it started leaking two weeks ago, we called a few plumbers with good Yelp reviews to give us an estimate for installing a tankless water heater, removing an obsolete solar system and relocating our washer and dryer and our garage sink to the other side of the garage. This whole job involves not only plumbing but also electrical work, gas pipe extension and creating a new exhaust/drain. Bill Dempster was very professional and patient in explaining what needs to be done. His bid was itemized so we can decide what fits our budget and his proposal was much more reasonable cost-wise than anybody else. But what really made it for us is that, unlike anybody else, he included in his bid the labor and materials for the electrician that he works with. We really didn't want to look for more reviews of electricians and deal with yet another person for this project. The Dempster team came on time, were fast and professional and finished the same day as promised. Oh, and they were VERY polite. They cleaned the garage areas that opened after the old water heater was hauled away--it was some 50-year-old dust pile there. Since they needed access to the crawl space across the whole house, they placed tarps to minimize any dirt spreading. Before leaving the guys checked thoroughly if everything is working. One of our kitchen circuits was off and we couldn't flip the switch on the electrical panel any more. The problem had nothing to do with their work, but our refrigerator didn't have power, so they called for us their electrician, who came promptly and, although it was almost 9pm, he drove all over town to find a substitution for the faulty switch. Half an hour after the plumbing team left, however, one of the new pipes leaked. We called the office (already way outside normal working hours) and Bill himself came with his foreman to inspect the whole project and fix the problem. He also measured the pressure in the pipes to make sure that we would not get the same problem again. Overall, we are extremely happy with Dempster Plumbing! Such a luck to have found them.
I called Bill for a leak. He said all the pipes were ready to go and we needed a re-pipe (the house had old galvanized pipes). Before I hired him, I got estimates from other plumbers. They confirmed his assessment, but he was much more thorough than the others. Then I called many of his references (I found Bill through Yelp). All of his references gave glowing reviews. Several were property managers, so they've worked with him on multiple jobs throughout the years. When you find a good contractor, hang on tight'; they're difficult to come by. Bill and his team are these rare gems. They take pride in their work, their prices are excellent, and the whole process of working with them has been a pleasure. I can't recommend Dempster Plumbing highly enough. I'll definitely have Bill do any plumbing and bathroom remodel work in our next house. Work performed: full re-pipe, retile of two bathrooms: floor and shower & tub/shower. Oh, and they fixed our front door and tightened a loose faucet while they were here--free of charge.
January 2011 Got a written estimate yeah! It was nicely written and dropped off at our door. Now to proceed. Bill is great in person communicator and educator. I hope to give him 5 stars after we finish doing work with him. August 2009 He came he saw he quoted he was reliable. Thank God! Valerie at his office was wonderful - conscientious and sensitive to my plight!! He said because I had not purchased the home he would not give me a receipt to change out some things but to call him later.
Just re-piped my house in Los Gatos. I am 100% satisfied with Bill and his team (which was led by his son). 1. I got 4 bids for my repipe - Bill's was priced in the middle and I gained confidence that his craftsmanship would be superior (based on the walkthrough and him pointing out all of the things he'd "bring to code" and other "add ons" he would throw in "for free" since they were repiping). Also chose him because he was the least 'salesy' and therefore, seemed most trustworthy. 2. They completed the job in the fashion promised (on time, very clean - used tarps everywhere - extremely nice tile/sheetrock work, etc) 3. The team is a group of young (but very experienced) guys. They are motivated, show up every day on time and in a good mood. 4. The team put up with me asking LOTS of questions as the job was completed. I'm a 'micromanager' by nature and they never once reacted to my questions in a defensive manner. 5. The quote is exactly what I paid. There was no change in it. 6. Bill came 1-2 times each day to check in on the status of the work and to make sure I was satisfied with the progress and quality of the work. 7. When I had questions for Bill, I would call him on his cell and he responded within the hour. 8. After the job was completed we had 2 minor things happen. Each time the lead guy came to my house within 15-20 minutes to help me address the issue (both minor, nothing related to "bad workmanship") I will continue to call on Bill and his guys for future plumbing work.
Bill Dempster and his crew repiped our entire house, replaced the 40+ year old water heater and installed a booster. He did all this in under two weeks and with little disruption to our daily lives. He was always professional and kept us up-to-date on the progress. After calling three other plumbers who told us they would not undertake this project, Bill agreed to go forth. We never could have imagined the difference the work Bill did would make such an impact on our lives! Our water is running through clean pipes, and we can flush the toilet, run a load of laundry and shower all at the same time! This is important for a family of five! Bill stands behind his word and immediately came to our home and free of charge replaced the booster when it stopped working. His crew is polite and hard-working. I had a slab leak, and called a few places for quotes as well as recommendations on how to fix the problem. After talking to a few plumbers, Dempster came up with the best solution which was a partial repipe and reroute. This saved me a ton of money, since all the other guys said I needed to do a full repipe. Bill, is a pleasure to work with, and is very quick to respond to any issues. He prides himself on doing things right. They did the job quick, and for a very reasonable price. I would have given them a full 5 stars, but ran into a few minor things, which in the end BIll resolved, but because I had to take a few extra hours off work, I had to take 1 star away. I'd recommend them.

Bill responded to my pressing call for help when my garbage disposal chopped up a baby food jar that I didn't know had fallen down the hatch. This happened the day before a party, and I wouldn't have survived the day without the disposal. He returned my call in less than an hour and was onsite and completed the repair only another hour after that. He was efficient, professional yet cordial and knowledgeable. I most definitely recommend him.
After first calling a plumber that was referred to me by a friend, I searched yelp and called Bill based on the reviews on this site. I had rattling in my house and the other plumber couldn't figure out what was going on, and was suggesting all sorts of expensive stuff to try and figure it out. I wasn't comfortable with that approach, so decided to start over. Called Bill and we quickly set up an appointment for the next day. He came over and figured out that there was an underground leak (despite the rumbling in the house), and narrowed down the location without having to rely on an expensive leak locater service. He made a quick, temporary fix (which was great b/c the noise was driving my family batty) and then offered a couple of solutions at different price points and after I accepted his recommendation, he came back at the scheduled time and fixed the problem. I have no hesitancy at all in recommending Bill to others.
